Attaching or Detaching a Search Catalog

You can attach or detach a search catalog from the repository. In general, this is done to move a repository or search service from one location to another, or to reattach a catalog when restoring from backup. If you need to relocate your search catalog files, either to another location on the same computer or because you are moving your search engine to a new computer, it is recommended that you detach them, move them, and then reattach them.

Warning: When your index catalog is detached, users will not be able to run full-text searches on your repository. You must attach it before these searches will function; it is not necessary to reindex in this case.

To detach your search index catalog:

  1. Start the Laserfiche Administration Console.  
  2. In the console tree, expand the desired Laserfiche Server.
  3. Select the desired Laserfiche repository.
  4. If security has been enabled on the selected repository, log in as any user who has been granted the Configure Search/Index privilege for the specified repository.
  5. Select the Index node.
  6. From the Action menu, select Properties.
  7. In the Search Catalog option of the General tab, click Detach.
  8. Confirm the detach process by clicking Yes.

To attach your search index catalog: 

  1. Start the Laserfiche Administration Console.  
  2. In the console tree, expand the desired Laserfiche Server.
  3. Select the desired Laserfiche repository.
  4. If security has been enabled on the selected repository, log in as any user who has been granted the Configure Search/Index privilege for the specified repository.
  5. Select the Index node.
  6. From the Action menu, select Properties.
  7. Open the General tab.

    8. Note: If there is already a catalog attached to this repository, you will not be able to edit the following options. You will need to detach or delete the existing catalog first.

  8. In the Server option, type the name of the computer on which the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service for your repository is installed.
  9. In the Port option, type the port number you want to use to connect to the search engine.  The default is 5053.
  10. In the Catalog Path option, type the path to the catalog on the Search Engine Host computer.
  11. Optional: To use a default search engine language other than English, select another language in the Default Language option.
  12. Click Attach.

To detach your search index catalog:

  1. Start the Laserfiche Web Administration Console.  
  2. Select the desired Laserfiche Server.
  3. Select the desired Laserfiche repository.
  4. If security has been enabled on the selected repository, log in as any user who has been granted the Configure Search/Index privilege for the specified repository.
  5. Click Index.
  6. Under Search Catalog, click Detach. 
  7. Confirm the detach process by clicking Yes.

Note: After you detach a catalog, you can change the server and folder path.

To attach your search index catalog: 

  1. Start the Laserfiche Web Administration Console.  
  2. Select the desired Laserfiche Server.
  3. Select the desired Laserfiche repository.
  4. If security has been enabled on the selected repository, log in as any user who has been granted the Configure Search/Index privilege for the specified repository.
  5. Click Index.

    6. Note: If there is already a catalog attached to this repository, you will not be able to edit the following options. You will need to detach or delete the catalog first.

  6. In the Index Server option, type the name of the computer on which the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service for your repository is installed.
  7. In the Port option, type the port number you want to use to connect to the search engine.  The default is 5053.
  8. In the Path option, type the path to the catalog on the Index Server computer.
  9. Optional: To use a default search engine language other than English, select another language in the Default Language option.
  10. Click Attach.
