Creating or Deleting a Search Catalog

You can create a new search catalog, or delete an existing catalog. You may need to create a search catalog if you are restoring from backup and did not back up your index catalog, or if you deleted your catalog for troubleshooting purposes. In general, it should not be necessary to delete your search catalog, but you may wish to do so if you want to change your stop words and completely reindex, or for troubleshooting purposes.

Warning: When your search catalog is deleted, users will not be able to run full-text searches on your repository. You will need to create a new catalog, and reindex your repository. See Reindexing a Repository or Volume for more information.

To delete your search index catalog 

  1. Start the Laserfiche Administration Console.  
  2. In the console tree, expand the desired Laserfiche Server.
  3. Select the desired Laserfiche repository.
  4. If security has been enabled on the selected repository, log in as any user who has been granted the Configure Search/Index privilege for the specified repository.
  5. Select the Index node.
  6. From the Action menu, select Properties.
  7. In the Search Catalog option of the General tab, click Delete.
  8. Confirm you want to delete the catalog.

To create a new search index catalog

  1. Start the Laserfiche Administration Console.  
  2. In the console tree, expand the desired Laserfiche Server.
  3. Select the desired Laserfiche repository.
  4. If security has been enabled on the selected repository, log in as any user who has been granted the Configure Search/Index privilege for the specified repository.
  5. Select the Index node.
  6. From the Action menu, select Properties.

    7. Note: If there is already a catalog attached to this repository, you will not be able to edit the following options.To edit the options without creating a new catalog, detach and re-attach the existing catalog. To create a new catalog, delete the existing catalog.

  7. In the Server option, type the name of the computer on which the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service for your repository is installed.
  8. In the Port option, type the port number you want to use to connect to the search engine.  The default is 5053.
  9. In the Catalog Path option, type the path where you would like to create the catalog on the Search Engine Host computer.

    10. Note: You cannot create a new catalog in a folder that already contains index files, even if those files are not currently attached. You will need to do one of the following: attach the catalog (which you can then either use or delete and re-create), manually delete the files in Windows and then create a new catalog, or choose a new catalog path.

  10. Optional: To use a default search engine language other than English, select another language in the Default Language option.
  11. Click Create.

To delete your search index catalog

  1. Start the Laserfiche Web Administration Console.  
  2. Select the desired Laserfiche Server.
  3. Select the desired Laserfiche repository.
  4. If security has been enabled on the selected repository, log in as any user who has been granted the Configure Search/Index privilege for the specified repository.
  5. Click Index.
  6. Under Search Catalog, click Delete.
  7. Confirm you want to delete the catalog.

To create a new search index catalog

  1. Start the Laserfiche Web Administration Console.  
  2. Select the desired Laserfiche Server.
  3. Select the desired Laserfiche repository.
  4. If security has been enabled on the selected repository, log in as any user who has been granted the Configure Search/Index privilege for the specified repository.
  5. Click Index.

    6. Note: If there is already a catalog attached to this repository, you will not be able to edit the following options. To edit the options without creating a new catalog, detach and re-attach the existing catalog. To create a new catalog, delete the existing catalog.

  6. In the Index Server option, type the name of the computer on which the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service for your repository is installed.
  7. In the Port option, type the port number you want to use to connect to the search engine.  The default is 5053.
  8. In the Path option, type the path where you would like to create the catalog on the Index Server computer.
