Feature Rights

Feature rights allow a user to perform specific actions, such as scanning and printing. Specifically, these rights control whether the command in question is available to that user when they open the Laserfiche web or Windows client. Feature rights are a quick way to prevent users from performing basic types of activity in the Laserfiche Windows client, though you should remember that feature rights are not as secure as entry access rights. If a user does not have the Import right, for instance, they will not be able to import any documents into the repository. However, if that user has sufficient entry access rights, he or she will still be able to import files through any application that does not enforce feature rights. For example, most third-party applications created using the Integrator's Toolkit will not enforce feature rights. Furthermore, feature rights must be used in conjunction with other types of rights; if a user does have the Import feature right but does not have the Create Document entry access right for a particular folder, they will not be able to import a new document into that folder. They will be able to import into a folder for which they do have the appropriate access rights, however.

Note: Feature rights govern what can be done within the Laserfiche web or Windows client specifically. If the Import feature right has not been granted, for instance, the Import command in the Laserfiche web or Windows client will not be visible to them, and so they will not be able to import in the Laserfiche web or Windows client. However, they could still import documents using a custom integration or using Laserfiche Toolkit scripts unless they were also prevented from doing so using entry access rights.
