Updating to Laserfiche 11 from Prior Versions

Once you have upgraded your Server installation to Laserfiche 11, the Server will be able to automatically update the database for you. This update process will happen the first time the Laserfiche Server 11 attempts to load a Laserfiche 8, 9, or 10 repository.

The update process happens behind the scenes, and does not require any user input. It is performed in place, and does not create a new database. When the update is complete, your repository will be compatible with the Laserfiche 11 Server. This process may take some time, depending on the size of your repository and the speed of your Laserfiche Server computer. While it is happening, the repository will be unavailable and the Administration Console may appear unresponsive. Do not stop or restart your Laserfiche Server service during this time, as that will cause the process to restart when you restart the service.

Note that the update happens automatically when the version 11 Server loads the repository. If you do not want the update to happen immediately, you should unregister your Laserfiche repository before upgrading your Server. It will not be updated until you register it again. (It will also not be available for use by the Laserfiche 11 Server until that time.)

When upgrading from Laserfiche 9.1 or higher to 11, you do not need to perform a separate update of your search catalog. The search catalog will be updated and your documents re-indexed as soon as it is loaded. If you have multiple catalogs to be updated, they will be handled one at a time. Full-text searches performed during the re-index will not include documents that have not yet been re-indexed in the search results. Please note that the catalog update process may be lengthy.

When updating the Laserfiche Client to 11, your OmniPage installation will not be updated to OmniPage 19.2. However, you can manually update Laserfiche OCR with OmniPage to 19.2.

Note: If your repository is on Laserfiche 6 or 7, see Updating to Laserfiche 11 from Prior Versions.

Important: The Laserfiche 11 update occurs in place, and does not create a new database. Therefore you should ensure that you have a working backup before updating the database.

Note: If you are using Laserfiche Server 11 with Forms 9.1, you may need to perform additional configuration. See Knowledge Base article 1013546 for more information.
