Using Security Tags to Secure Documents and Folders

Security tags can be assigned to documents and folders. Only users that have been granted all security tags assigned to a document or folder will have access to it.

Note: In addition to security tags, a user will still need the appropriate feature and access rights to view or work with a document or folder that has been secured using security tags.

Note:Assigning security tags to users or groups requires the Manage Tags privilege.

To assign security tags on a document or folder

  1. Start the Laserfiche web or Windows client.
  2. Log in to the desired repository as a user who has been granted that tag.
  3. Select the folder or document you want to secure using security tags.
  4. Right-click the document or folder and select Metadata, or open the document and view the Metadata tab.
  5. In the Tags tab, select each security tag you want to assign to the selected document or folder.
  6. Click OK to save your changes.

To assign security tags to a trustee

  1. Start the Laserfiche Administration Console.
  2. In the console tree, expand the desired Laserfiche Server item.
  3. Select the desired Laserfiche repository.
  4. If security has been enabled on the selected repository, log in as any user who has been granted the Manage Metadata privilege for the specified repository.
  5. Expand the ClosedUsers and Groups node.


  6. Select the Users, Groups, Windows Accounts, or LDAP Management node, depending on which type of trustee you want to grant the tag to.
  7. Select the trustee you want to modify.
  8. From the Action menu, click Properties.
  9. Click the Tags tab. ClosedClick to see what this tab looks like.
  10. Select one or more security tags you want to grant to the selected user or group.
  11. Click OK to save your changes.

To assign security tags to a trustee

  1. Open the web client management page. Sign in as any user who has been granted the Manage Metadata privilege for the repository of interest.
  2. Click on either Users or Everyone. If you select Users, select either the Users or Groups tab, then select the user or group of interest.
  3. Under the General tab, click Edit in the Security tags section.
  4. Search for the security tag you want. When you find it, select the tag to assign it to the user.
  5. Repeat the previous step for each security tag you want to assign.
  6. Click Save to save your changes.
