Creating Custom Details Pane Tabs

A custom tab allows administrators to display information from another website (whether another Laserfiche web application, a web application used at your site, or an external website) directly within the details pane of the Laserfiche web client. You can use tokens to customize what is displayed in this tab. For example, if you store tracking numbers for shipments in a “Tracking ID” field on your “Orders” template, you could create a custom tab for the carrier’s website using that field value as a token. When users selected the custom tab in the Preview Pane for a particular document, the tab would automatically open the carrier’s website and use the token to jump directly to tracking information for that order.

When configuring details pane tabs, you will provide a tab name and website URL, and can use the token picker to dynamically update the tab. You can also specify whether you want to display the tab in the folder browser, the document viewer, or both. In addition, you can choose to limit where the tab will appear. You can have it display only in specific folders, only display on documents with specific templates, or only display for certain groups or users. For example, you might want to display tracking information only with the Orders template, or only display your CRM tab for documents and folders within your Sales folder.

Note: Some third-party websites may prevent you from loading their site within Laserfiche.

To configure custom details pane tabs

  1. Log in to the web client as a user with the Manage Repository Configuration privilege.
  2. Select your user name in the upper right corner, and then select Options. The Options page will open.
  3. On the left, select Display.
  4. In the Tabs section, select Add. The Custom Tab dialog box will open.
  5. In the Tab name option, specify the name of the tab that you want to add.
  6. In the Website URL option, specify the website that you want to display in the tab. To use tokens to customize the display, select the token picker. You can add repository properties such as entry ID or user name, or field values. To include a field value, select More Fields and then select the field you want to use. When the tab is opened, the token will be replaced with the relevant value. ClosedShow me an example.
  7. An administrator wants to add a tab that will automatically open information about a customer in their CRM software. The CRM software's URL is https://www.example.com/CRM/, and customers information can be opened directly by appending the customer ID number. The customer ID number is stored in the "Customer ID" field on Sales documents. Using the Website URL https://www.example.com/CRM/[Customer ID] would create a tab that opened the CRM directly to the relevant customer's information.
  8. In the Location option, specify whether you want the tab to be displayed in the folder browser, the document viewer, or both.
  9. Optional: In the Display option, specify that the tab should only be displayed under certain circumstances:
  10. Select OK.
