Using the Laserfiche Office Integration

Once the Laserfiche Office Integration has been installed, either as part of the Laserfiche Windows client installation or through the Laserfiche web client, it will automatically be loaded whenever you open Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook. It doesn't matter whether you launch these Office applications by opening an electronic document in the repository or externally from Laserfiche. The Office Integration will be available in both cases.

If you are using Microsoft Office 2013 or later, the Laserfiche Office Integration will be available as a Laserfiche tab on the navigation ribbon.

Once you have installed the Laserfiche Office Integration, you can save documents, e-mails, and attachments directly to Laserfiche. See Save to Laserfiche and Save to Laserfiche from Microsoft Outlook for more information.

When working with Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents in the Client, you can make changes to both the document itself and its metadata. You can save changes while working with your document as well as when you're done working, and you can decide how you want to save those changes (for instance, as a new version or an entirely new document). See Working with a Microsoft Office Document for more information.

Since e-mails are not editable in Outlook, the options for Outlook are different.  Email messages cannot be modified and saved directly through the Office Integration, but you can send them to Laserfiche, and you can save attachments within an email to Laserfiche as well. See Save to Laserfiche from Microsoft Outlook for more information. You can also attach Laserfiche documents directly from your repository to an email. See Attaching a Laserfiche Document to an Email.

Unlike other types of electronic documents, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents opened with the Office Integration in the Laserfiche web client do not need to be downloaded before you can open them, and they do not need to be re-uploaded to save your changes. Instead, with Office Integration, they will open automatically. You can then make changes to both the document itself and its metadata. You can save changes while working with your document as well as when you're done working, and you can decide how you want to save those changes (for instance, as a new version or an entirely new document). See Working with a Microsoft Office Document for more information.

Since e-mails are not editable in Outlook, the options for Outlook are different.  Outlook e-mails opened from within the Laserfiche web client will not open automatically; they still must be downloaded and opened, and they cannot be directly modified. You can, however, send Outlook e-mails to Laserfiche, and you can save attachments within an email directly as well. See Save to Laserfiche from Microsoft Outlook for more information. You can also attach Laserfiche documents directly from your repository to an email. See Attaching a Laserfiche Document to an Email.
