Viewing Search Results

When you have performed a search, the results of your search will be displayed in the Contents Pane. If your search was a text search, or an annotation text search, the Context Hits pane will appear in the bottom half of the Contents Pane. A context hit is a selection of the text surrounding the search term, providing you information about the context in which that term was found.

You can open a specific search result by double-clicking the desired search. You can also right-click it and select Open Containing Folder so you can see where in the folder tree the document resides. Note, if the entire folder tree is not displayed, you may only have rights to view the folder the document resides in. If your search results include context hits, you can also double-click the occurrence of the word or phrase in the Context Hits pane to directly open the document to the page where the search term appears. The search term will be highlighted in the document.

If you have assigned colors to templates, documents and folders that have been assigned that template will be displayed in the same color as the template. For example, if your Invoices template has been assigned the color red, all the documents and folders with the Invoices template will be red, allowing you to quickly locate them in the search results.

Note: Opening a context hit for an annotation search will also open the annotation in which the occurrence can be found.

Viewing results for a previously performed search

After performing a search, a "Search Results" item will appear in the Folder Pane and will be available until the Laserfiche session from which the search was performed is closed, or another search is run. Selecting Search Results will display the results of the last search performed.

Note: The Search Results item is not an actual folder in your repository. It is merely a placeholder for search results.

After viewing the results for the last performed search, you can view the criteria used to search for those items by clicking (Search Pane).
