Electronic File Search
The Electronic File search enables you to search by whether or not a document has an electronic file associated with it—also considered searching for an electronic document—as well as what kind of electronic file. For example, to search for a Microsoft Word file, type "doc" in the with extension text box. Optionally, specify whether you want to search for electronic files with a certain file size. You can also search for documents that do not have an electronic file associated with them.
To search for documents with electronic files
- In the Search Pane, click Select a search type and select Electronic File from the menu. If it is not in the menu, click More... to open the Search Attributes dialog box to add it. You can also click More... next to Select a search type.
Note: By default, the Electronic File search is in the Select a search type menu.
- Select with electronic file component.
- Optional: To search for documents with a particular type of electronic file, select the with extension checkbox and type an extension in the text box (i.e. pdf).
- Optional: To search for documents with an electronic file with a particular size, select the with file size checkbox and configure the following:
- Specify if you want to search for documents with electronic file sizes that are more than, less than, or exactly the value you enter.
- Enter the file size you want to search.
- Specify the unit in bytes (B), kilobytes (KB), or megabytes (MB).
- Click Search.
Alternatively, you can search for documents that do not contain electronic files by selecting no electronic file.
