Installing Import Agent and Email Archive

This section contains the information you'll need to successfully install Import Agent and Email Archive.

Installing Import Agent

Note: Import Agent is licensed as a desktop-based add-on. For each computer you want to install Import Agent on, you will need a license file and Windows administrative privileges.

To install Import Agent

  1. Open the Import Agent install package and run SetupLf.exe.
  2. Select which language you want to run the installation in.
  3. The Import Agent setup will launch and the Welcome screen will appear. Click Next.
  4. In the End-User License Agreement step, read the license agreement and select I accept the terms in the License Agreement if you agree to the terms of the license agreement. Click Next.
  5. On the Custom Setup step, select whether you want to also install Email Archive and a local instance of the OCR engine. Modify the Install directory option if you want to change the default installation folder. By default, Import Agent is installed in "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Import Agent." Click Next to continue.
  6. On the Laserfiche Product Activation step, specify the desired method of activation.
    • If you have an activation key, select the Activate online using the following activation key option and specify the activation key in the text box. The installation will contact Laserfiche over the Internet at the end of the installation.
    • If you received a license file, select the Activate using license file option and browse to the path where the Import Agent license file can be found.
    • If you are in a Laserfiche Rio environment,
      1. Select the Activate using the Rio Directory Server option. Click Next to continue.
      2. Specify the Laserfiche Directory Server and a username and password that can connect to the Laserfiche Directory Server. Click Next.
      3. Specify the License database and License block Import Agent will use. You can also register a new instance or renew your license from this page. Click Next.
      4. Review the Laserfiche Directory Server information. Click Next.
  7. On the Laserfiche Service Settings step, specify authentication information for the Import Agent service and Email Archive service. By default, the services will run as the Local System account. You do not need to specify a password for the Local System account. Select the Create Windows Firewall exception option for the installation to create a Windows Firewall exception for the ports used by the Email Archive service (if you do not do this, you will need to configure the ports manually). Click Next to continue.
  8. On the Ready to Install step, click Install to begin the installation process.
  9. The Prerequisites step may appear if Import Agent needs to install additional components. A green check will appear next to installed items and a red X will appear next to items that have not been installed. If one or more of the items on the list has a red X next to it, install that item and then click Retry. Click Next.
  10. Important: Bypassing prerequisites may cause Import Agent to function incorrectly and is not recommended.

  11. On the Installing Laserfiche Import Agent step, click Next when the installation finishes.
  12. Click Finish to exit the setup wizard.

Configuring Your Firewall for Email Archive

Note: Configuring your firewall is required if you are using SMTP to retrieve messages from your Exchange Server. The SMTP method is being deprecated and is no longer recommended.

When using SMTP, Email Archive automatically ensures port 25 is open between Email Archive and your email server. If you change the port, you must manually open that port in your firewall for Email Archive . Additionally, ensure your network configuration allows your email server to access the machine on which Email Archive is installed. If your email server is outside your network (e.g.,in the Cloud), we recommend using Email Archive 's IMAP option to avoid the unsafe configuration of having Email Archive on a machine in the DMZ.

Select the Create Windows Firewall exception option for the installation to create a Windows Firewall exception for the ports used by the Email Archive service (if you do not do this, you will need to configure the ports manually).
