Configuring Windows Failover Clustering for Directory Server
This topic documents the configuration information necessary to support Windows failover clustering for Laserfiche Directory Server.
Configuring failover clustering involves the following steps:
- Installing and configuring the Windows Failover Clustering feature on the appropriate Windows Server machines. Windows Server handles failure detection and rollover at the Windows machine level.
- Configuring Laserfiche Directory Server to be aware of the Windows cluster in order to properly handle licensing concerns and to allow Directory Server to continue running after failover.
Windows Server Configuration
- Install the Windows Failover Clustering feature on all computers in the potential cluster. Make sure to include the cluster management tools.
- Open Windows Failover Cluster Manager and create a new cluster.
- Include all the appropriate computers in the cluster.
- Under Nodes, verify that all the appropriate computers are listed.
- Install Laserfiche Directory Server on all computers in the cluster.
- Using Windows Failover cluster Manager, under Roles, create a role.
- Use the Add Resource option to add a Generic Service.
- In the New Resource Wizard, select the Laserfiche Directory Server service, and progress through the next steps in the wizard to add the service.
Directory Server Configuration
- View the Laserfiche Directory Server Administration site.
- On the Settings tab, turn on the Enable Cluster (this action cannot be undone) option.
- Next to Cluster Role Name, specify the cluster role created in the previous section.
- Next to Cluster Fingerprint, specify the hardware fingerprint of the first cluster node hosting Directory Server.
- Click Add new host to cluster and add a cluster node. Repeat as necessary for additional nodes. Use the fully qualified domain name for each host name.
Note: The licensing database connections must be configured separately for each node. Administrators should create and activate the Directory Server database on one node, then attach the database to the other Directory Server nodes.
Note: If you are upgrading from Directory Server 11 and you have previously configured a failover cluster role using the Laserfiche Directory Service Resource, you will need to reconfigure a role with Directory Server as a generic service.
