Installing and Configuring the Laserfiche Integration with Microsoft Office 365

To successfully deploy the Laserfiche Integration with Microsoft Office 365, you need to install Microsoft's Office Online Server as well as the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host for Microsoft Office. The Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host for Microsoft Office provides an integration point between the Office Online Server and the Laserfiche server in order to support simultaneous editing of Microsoft Office documents within a Laserfiche repository. To enable simultaneous co-authoring of Microsoft Office documents, you must have access to an Office Online Server, and you must also install the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host for Microsoft Office.

Installing Microsoft's Office Online Server

Deploy Office Online Server.

To install Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host for Microsoft Office:

  1. Run the SetupLf.exe file. You will see "Welcome to the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host 11 Setup" message.
  2. Click Next.
  3. The End-User License Agreement will appear. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement if you agree to the terms of the license agreement. Click Next to continue.
  4. Select the "Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host" box and enter the Install directories. Click Next.
  5. In the Ready to Install step, click Install to start the installation process.
  6. In the Prerequisites step, the web client installation will detect the minimum OS version, Internet Information Services, IIS ASP.NET 4.5 and IIS Static Content (IIS7+) and enable them if they are currently disabled. In addition, it will install .NET Framework 4.8 and Microsoft URL Rewriter 2.0. Lastly, it will register ASP.NET 4x64 on IIS. Click Run to begin the check if it does not start automatically. Click Next to continue.
  7. The installation process will run, displaying the product or feature currently being installed and the status of the installation. When the installation is complete, click Next to continue.
  8. When the installation process is complete, click Finish to exit the installation wizard.

Configuring the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host for Microsoft Office 365

To configure the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host:

  1. Open the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host for Microsoft Office configuration page. You must be either a member of the Laserfiche Co-Authoring Document Host group or a local administrator to access this page By default, this is located at the following URL:

    https://mysampleserver/LFWOPIHost/Configure/Index

    Note: In order to navigate to this URL, the current user must be a member of the server's local "Administrators" group or the "Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host Administrators" group.

  2. Under Office Online Server URL, specify the location of the Microsoft Office Online Server installation.

    Note: Office Online Server can have an internal zone URL and an external zone URL. If you specify the internal availability zone URL for Office Online Server, make sure to select the Internal only checkbox.

  3. Click Save to complete the configuration.

To enable co-authoring for the web client:

  1. Open the Laserfiche web client configuration page. By default, this is located at the following URL:

    https://YourWebClientServer/laserfiche/configuration/

  2. Select Services.
  3. Click on the Office Online Server toggle to set it to ON.
  4. Select the Enable simultaneous co-authoring checkbox.
  5. Within the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Server option, specify the URL to your Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host for Microsoft Office.
  6. Click Save to save your changes.

Troubleshooting the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host for Microsoft Office 365

  1. Ensure that the version of the Office Online Server is at least the November 2018 update with the latest service pack.
  2. Confirm that your Office Online Server meets Microsoft's recommended hardware and software requirements.
  3. Verify that the Office Online Server's operating system drive is not full. The Office Online Server may write logs that fill up the drive in these locations:
    • C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\OfficeWebApps\Data\Logs\ULS
    • C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles
  4. Verify that the Office Online Server allows edits. If needed, execute the PowerShell command to enable editing:

    Set-OfficeWebAppsFarm -EditingEnabled:$true

  5. Verify that the Office Online Server is reachable from the computer running the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host. Navigate to https://YourOfficeOnlineServer/hosting/discovery.
  6. Configure the Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host for Microsoft Office. See the instructions above.
  7. Verify that Laserfiche Document Co-Authoring Host is reachable by going to https://YourCoAuthoringHost/LFWOPIHost/. Make sure that the casing in the URL (LFWOPIHost) is correct.
  8. Configure Office Online Server in the Services tab under the Laserfiche web client Configuration page.
