Running a Laserfiche Connector Profile

A Laserfiche Connector profile can be configured to run a search, assign templates and fields to search results, scan a document, import a document, take a screenshot, open a website, start another application, or write information to an application.

You can run a Laserfiche Connector profile one of two ways:

  • Press the profile's keyboard shortcut.
  • If only one profile is associated with the Laserfiche Connector button, double-click the button to run it.
  • If multiple profiles are associated with the Laserfiche Connector button, click the button and select a profile.
  • Tip: To hide the Laserfiche Connector button, right-click the Laserfiche Connector icon in the notification section of the taskbar and select Configuration. In Laserfiche Connector Configuration dialog box, click Options, and clear the option: Display Laserfiche Connector icon on windows.

Continuing a Multi-step Laserfiche Connector Action

If Laserfiche Connector needs to retrieve information from multiple applications or web pages before using that information to complete an action, you may need to guide Laserfiche Connector through the applications. In this case, instructions will appear telling you which application you need to navigate to and if you need to insert any information. In the application, click the Continue button to continue the action.

You can reference any pending actions or instructions by right-clicking the Laserfiche Connector icon in the notification section of the task bar, and clicking View pending actions.

Searching with Laserfiche Connector

If a Laserfiche Connector profile is configured to run a search, search results will be shown in Laserfiche as if the user had performed the search directly through Laserfiche. If only one entry is returned, the document will automatically open. Learn how to change this setting.

Showing the search count

If the Laserfiche Connector profile has been configured to show the search count in the target application, then the number of search results found will automatically appear next to the Laserfiche Connector button. (You may need to sign in before seeing the search count.) With this configuration, you don't need to run the search, and then navigate to another window, just to see if the profile returned any search results.

You can interact with the automatic search in the following ways:

  • If only one document is found, clicking the search result count link will automatically open the document.
  • If multiple documents are found, then clicking the search result count link will open a list of those documents. Double-click a document on the list to open it. Or multi-select search results, right-click, and select Open to open each search result in a separate tab.
  • To cancel the search, click the search link again.
  • To run the search again, click the refresh button.
  • If you switch tabs on browsers while a search is running, the search action will pause. If you return to the target tab within five minutes, the search will resume. If you do not return to the tab within five minutes, the search will be canceled.
  • Refreshing a web page will not cancel or restart the search.
  • Show or hide the docked search pane (if your search is configured to open in a docked web client window) by clicking the sideways arrow. You can also undock, move, and redock this search pane.

Configuring Keyboard Shortcut Behavior

The keyboard shortcut for an action is initially configured when a profile is created, and can be edited in the Laserfiche Connector Configuration dialog box and in the profile itself.

You also can specify when keyboard shortcuts will run Laserfiche Connector:

  • Only when the application specified in the Laserfiche Connector profile has focus
  • Always, even if the application specified in the Laserfiche Connector profile does not have focus

To configure this setting, right-click the Laserfiche Connector icon in the notification section of the taskbar and select Configuration, in the Laserfiche Connector Configuration dialog box click Options, and select or clear Enable keyboard shortcuts only when the window has focus.

Note: Changing the keyboard shortcut setting here will only update the shortcut for the currently signed in user. If you want to change the shortcut for all users, you need to edit the profile. Learn more.
