Redaction Reasons

Redaction reasons allow administrators to configure optional reasons why redactions may have been placed on a document. For example, you might want to indicate that a particular redaction was placed to conform to a specific regulation. When a redaction is applied with a reason set, users who do not have the See Through Redactions entry access right for that document will be able to see that a redaction has been placed, its properties such as who created it and when it was created, and its redaction reason. They will not be able to see through the redaction, however.

When redaction reasons are configured, users will be able to apply any redaction reason to an annotation, or no redaction reason. Redaction reasons can also be added to or removed from redactions later by users with the rights to redact the document.

To create a redaction reason

  1. Log in to the Laserfiche Administration Console as a user with the Manage Repository Configuration privilege.
  2. Expand your Laserfiche Server and repository, and select Repository Options.
  3. Select Redaction Reasons.
  4. Right-click, or open the Action menu, and select New Redaction Reason....
  5. In the Reason option, specify a name for the redaction reason.
  6. Click OK to save your changes.

To create a redaction reason

  1. Sign in to the web client as a user with the Manage Repository Configuration privilege.
  2. Select your user name in the upper right corner, and then select Management. The management page will open.
  3. On the left, select General.
  4. Select the Redaction Reason tab.
  5. Click Add redaction reason to add a new reason.
  6. Click Save to save your changes.

After placing the redaction on a text, the Laserfiche Windows or web clients will ask for a reason for the redaction under the "Redaction Properties" dialog box. You may choose a redaction via the dropdown menu, or leave it as "No reason assigned." You may also write your own redaction if you are an administrative user.

To edit redaction reasons in the Laserfiche Web client:

  1. Go to the Management page and click General in the left-hand side.
  2. On the upper-right hand corner, click Redaction Reason.
  3. In the rows that appear you may edit, add or delete reasons for redactions.

Note: Setting a redaction reason allows users to see the redaction's properties and why a portion of the document has been redacted. This does not allow them to see through the redaction. If you are setting a redaction and you do not want users to know that part of the image has been redaction (such as when setting a white redaction on a document with white pages), you should not use redaction reasons.
