6505: Unable to find the specified Laserfiche server.

The Laserfiche Server was not found. There may be network communications issues between the client application and the Laserfiche Server caused by:

  • A firewall is blocking communication between the server and the client.
  • DCOM is not configured correctly.
  • An antivirus program is blocking communication between the server and the client.

Try the following:

  • Verify that TCP/IP has been properly configured.
  • If a firewall exists between the Laserfiche Client and Server, configure DCOM to use a range of ports, and configure the firewall to open port 135 and the range of ports specified for DCOM. Or install and configure the Laserfiche Firewall Compatibility Component.

Try the following:

  1. Load Component Services. Component Services can be found under Administrative Tools, which in turn can be found in the Control Panel.
  2. Expand Component Services, Computers, and then select My Computer.
  3. From the Action menu, select Properties.
  4. Click the Default Protocols tab.
  5. Make sure that Connection-oriented TCP/IP is available. If it is not available, then you should add it by clicking Add. The Select DCOM protocol dialog box will appear. Select the Connection-oriented TCP/IP option. Click OK.
  6. Click Properties. The Properties for COM Internet Services dialog box will appear.
  7. Click Add. The Add Port Range dialog box will appear.
  8. Type the port range that will be used by the Laserfiche Server. Click OK.
  9. If a firewall has been configured on the current computer, then port 135 and the port range specified in the previous step must be open. When opening these ports, make sure that they are opened for both incoming and outgoing. For instructions, please refer to the documentation provided with your firewall application.

Configuring DCOM using the specified method is not always sufficient to enable a Laserfiche client to communicate with the Laserfiche Server through a firewall. If the issue persists, contact Laserfiche Technical Support and inquire about the Laserfiche Firewall Compatibility Component.
