Starting Events

Starting events make it easy to define how you want your processes to start. You can define your starting events once and attach them to as many processes as you like. You can also leave the starting events open-ended, so that you can define the logic before you know the specific processes you want to run.

You can create a starting event in the following ways:

Building a Starting Event

After you open a new starting event, you are ready to build the actual event.

  1. Type a unique name and description.
  2. Select a event type.
  3. Enable or disable the event. Enabling runs after the starting event is created. Then click Next.
  4. Configure the condition or timer. Then click Next.
  5. Select the action you want the starting event to perform. Skip this step if you want to create an unassigned event.

    Note: In the following steps, the option to invoke a bot is only available for timer starting events.

    1. Click Click here to set an action. to specify the first action for the starting event.
    2. Under Action, use the drop-down menu to specify if you want the starting event to run a workflow or a bot.
    3. In the second drop-down menu, select the workflow or bot you want to start.
    4. If you have multiple bot queues, you can select a priority for the bot you are starting here. Unless you choose to use the bot's settings, the priority set here will override the priority set on the bot.
      • High priority bots will be run first.
      • Normal priority bots run after high priority bots have been run.
      • Low priority bots run after high and low priority bots have been run.
      • Use bot settings follows the setting configured on the bot definition from the bot Manage page.
    5. Optional: Select Add action to start additional workflows or bots.
  6. Review your settings, and click Create.
