Configuring Scan Sources
Laserfiche uses scan sources to capture images. There are two basic types of scan sources. If you are scanning paper documents directly into Laserfiche, you can use TWAIN with a scanner that uses TWAIN drivers, WIA Scan Engine with a scanner that uses WIA drivers, or ScanConnect with a scanner that uses ISIS drivers. Alternately, if you want to scan already-existing images (such as images previously scanned), you can use Universal Capture.
Configuring TWAIN, WIA Scan Engine, or ScanConnect
When you use Laserfiche Scanning with TWAIN, WIA Scan Engine, or ScanConnect as your scan source, you can select a scanner to use with Laserfiche Scanning and configure settings for that scanner. Since individual scanners have different options available, refer to your scanner's documentation for information about your specific options.
To selecting and configure TWAIN, WIA Scan Engine, or ScanConnect as a scan source
- Launch Laserfiche Scanning, or, if it is already open, open the File menu and select Choose Scan Source.
- Select TWAIN, WIA Scan Engine, or ScanConnect from the drop-down menu.
- Check Show Scan Source Setup and click OK.
- Choose your scanner from the drop-down box. If your scanner is not listed, make sure that your scanner and its drivers are installed and up to date. Click OK.
- Open the File menu and select Scanner Options.
- Configure scanner settings. (Refer to your scanner documentation for the specific settings available for your scanner.)
Configuring Universal Capture
Universal Capture works as a virtual scanner by capturing images already stored on your computer. This allows you to use any scanner or scanning software you want and still take advantage of the features of Laserfiche Scanning, or to use Laserfiche Scanning to capture images scanned in the past.
Universal Capture can only retrieve TIFF, JPEG, or BMP files from your computer. To add other types of files to Laserfiche, you can either import them, or you can use Laserfiche Snapshot to "print" them as image files.
To selecting and configure TWAIN, WIA Scan Engine, or ScanConnect as a scan source
- Launch Laserfiche Scanning, or, if it is already open, open the File menu and select Choose Scan Source.
- Select Universal Capture from the drop-down menu.
- Check Show Scan Source Setup and click OK. The Universal Capture Properties dialog box will open.
- Specify the location on your computer that you want to capture images from. You can use a local path (e.g., C:\Documents and Settings\jdoe\My Documents) or a network path (e.g., \\network drive\personal\jdoe). You can use the browse button (...) to browse to the source location.
- Under File Type, select which type of files to scan.
- Determine how to handle processed images: Select Delete original images to delete the images from your computer after they're scanned, or Move processed images to to move them to another folder. If you choose to move the images, click the browse button (...) to browse to the destination folder.
- Determine when to stop scanning: Select No images of the selected type are found to stop scanning when there are no more images in the source folder, or Scanning inactivity has exceeded to set a time limit after which scanning will stop.
- Click OK to save your settings.
