Configuring Access to Field Data
Field access rights control what operations a user can perform on field data. Some examples of field access rights include the ability to:
- See the values in a field.
- Edit the values of a field.
Fields contain data that can be used to facilitate sorting and organizing documents or folders. To keep fields useful, you will want all users who should be able to see the data in the field to have the Read right, and all users who should be able to apply the field to the document or fill it with a value to have the Create and/or Edit right.
In a new repository, the following privileges will automatically be granted:
- The ADMIN user will be granted all field rights.
- The EVERYONE group will be granted the Read, Create, Edit, and Read field security rights.
Note: These settings only apply to a fresh repository with no contents. Existing repositories and migrated repositories will retain their original security.
Additionally, when a new field is created, by default the EVERYONE group will have the Read, Create, Edit, and Read ACL rights, and the user who created the field will have all field rights. See Default Field and Template Security for more information.
To configure rights, see the Assigning Field and Template Access Rights topic.
