Laserfiche Licensing
In Laserfiche, both applications and users must have the appropriate licenses. With Laserfiche Rio, you administer your licenses using the Directory Server application, which allows you to generate individual application licenses, allocate your named users, and otherwise manage your installation.
The Laserfiche Licensing white paper has more details on application and user licenses.
Primary License and Application Licenses
Licensing starts with a primary license, which you can download from Laserfiche by providing your activation key in Directory Server . Each time you install an application, you will use Directory Server to generate a new license for that application. The license controls what features of the application will be activated. In many cases, the license will be linked to the machine where the application will be installed. Licenses are saved as either lf.lic or lf.licx files, depending on the product and version.
Laserfiche Server Licenses
The license for a Laserfiche Server will also determine what users can sign in to that server. In Laserfiche Rio, each Laserfiche Server license will include the list of users and devices who have been assigned licenses on the Directory Server administration site. Each user who is on the list (whether they are a Windows Active Directory account, a Novell eDirectory account, SAML user, or a Laserfiche repository user) will have a license reserved for them to use to sign in; each device on the list will also have a license reserved, so that any user can sign in on that computer.
