Templates and Fields

You can add and edit templates and fields in the Laserfiche app, based on your Laserfiche security rights. If a template has a color associated with it, a colored bar will appear next to the entries the template is applied to.

Templates

To modify a document or folder's templates and fields

  1. Long press the entry and press Metadata. You can also press the More Options button to the right of the entry. Swipe up or press the ellipsis in the app bar at the bottom of the screen. Press Select in the app bar, select the document, then press Metadata in the app bar.
  2. If a template has been assigned to the document, it will be displayed next to Template. If no template has been assigned to the document, you will see No template assigned. Press the template name or No template assigned. Select a template the template drop-down menu and press the check mark in the top right corner.
  3. Pressing Add/Remove Fields will display all available fields on the Laserfiche Server. Select the checkboxes next to the fields you want to add to the entry, clear the checkboxes next to the ones you want to remove from the entry, and press the check mark in the top right corner.

    Note:Fields added without values will be saved as blank fields when using version 10.2.1 or later of the Laserfiche Server.

  4. Press inside a field box to enter/edit a field value. If editing a number or text field, you can press the barcode button to scan a barcode value that will automatically be placed in the field box. You can also press the token button next to the field to select from a list of default tokens. If a multi-value field is part of a field group (configured in the Laserfiche 10.2 Administration Console), you can press Add to insert another field group or the Delete button to remove a field group.

    Note: The way in which field information is entered depends on the type of field you are working with. For more information, see Field Types.

    Note: If the number and text fields are configured with a character length that's too short, the barcode value may not fit in the field. The default length of 40 is recommended.

  5. When you've entered all desired field values, press the check mark to save the field values. Alternatively, press the X to discard all changes.
