Choosing a File Format for Attachments

The file format used for attachments created from Laserfiche content depends on the type of entry being sent, though you can specify the file format used to send images from documents.

• Sending a link to a document or folder will send an .lfe file in the Laserfiche Windows client, or a URL in the Laserfiche web client. An .lfe file is a shortcut to the entry in the repository. Opening this file will automatically launch the Laserfiche Windows client (assuming it has been installed on the recipient's computer) and open the Laserfiche Windows client to the specified document or folder. (To use an .lfe file, the recipient must have the Laserfiche Windows client installed.) A Laserfiche web client URL is a link pointing directly to the document in the repository. If the recipient does not have access to the repository or does not have the rights to view the entry, they will not be able to view the entry with either an .lfe file or a Laserfiche web client URL.
• Sending an electronic document will always send the electronic file associated with it. If recipients don't have the appropriate third-party application to view the electronic file, they won’t be able to view its contents.
• Images can be sent in a variety of file formats. If you choose to format sent images according to a default configuration, you can select a default file format for color and grayscale images and another for black and white images. If you don’t, you will only be able to select a single default file format for all images. • Text pages are only included if the document does not contain image pages or an electronic file. Text defaults can be configured from the Text section of the Export node in the Options dialog box.
