Template Search

The Template search enables users to search for documents and folders by assigned template, field value, or multiple field values. To search by template only, select the template and leave all the fields blank. This will return all documents and folders assigned this template regardless of the field values.

To specify a field and value to search for, type the value you want to search for in the field. The search values you can input depend on the field type and any constraints on the field. For instance, you cannot search for alphabet characters in a number field, and if an administrator has constrained the phone number format that can be typed in a phone number field, you will not be able to type the number in a non-matching format.

Note: All fields left blank will be ignored when the search is performed.

To search by template

  1. In the Search Pane, click Select a search type and select Template from the menu. If it is not in the menu, click More... to open the Search Attributes dialog box to add it. You can also click More... next to Select a search type.

Note: By default, the Template search is in the Select a search type menu.

  2. Select the template you want to search for from the drop-down menu.
  3. Optional: Type one or more values in the appropriate fields.
  4. Click Search.

Note: When searching for Date or Date/Time field values, make sure your search terms use the same date and time formats as the metadata fields. For example, if the field uses the 12-hour time format, the time included in your search should follow the form HH:MM:SS TT, where TT is AM or PM (or localized term for AM/PM). If the field uses the 24-hour time format, the time included in your search should follow the form HH:MM:SS.
