Repository Administration

These tools provide comprehensive administration of a Laserfiche system, covering server management, repository configuration, and Web Client setup. Together, they give administrators centralized control and flexibility to efficiently manage their system, reduce maintenance overhead, and ensure a secure, high-performing environment for users.

Laserfiche 12 centralizes administration by splitting server management into the Repository Server Administration Tool and repository management into the Web Client. This provides a streamlined, browser-based experience that simplifies administration while maintaining full control over server settings, users, repositories, and system configurations.

Repository Server Administration Tool

The Repository Server Administration Tool provides information about your server at a glance such as its current status, license information, connections, and installation information.

  • On the Server Settings tab, you can see a list of system manager accounts and you can add and remove managers from here. You can also configure ports and a default repository.
  • From the All Sessions tab, easily see all users connected to the server, which machine they are connected from, the application they’re using, and how long they’ve been inactive.
  • The Repositories tab lists the Laserfiche repositories hosted on the server. From here you can register repositories, create repositories, edit database connections, deregister and delete repositories.
  • The Named Users tab lists all named users on the server and their license type. You can also search for specific users and delete users.

Easily switch between multiple servers or register a new server using the drop-down menu at the top of the tool.

Repository Administration in the Web Client

Repository administration now includes options previously only accessible from the Desktop Administration Console, allowing you to fully manage your repository from any browser. No need to install separate tools or remote into to the server directly.

  • You can now view and manage volumes from repository administration. From here you can create and attach volumes; delete, detach, and export them; configure volume security; decompress, reindex, validate checksums, and enable checksums. Select a volume to edit its properties such as its name, status, path, and rollover instructions. You can also see statistics about the volume here.
  • From the Index page, manage all aspects of full-text search and search catalogs, including indexing, creating, attaching, deleting, or detaching a search catalog. You also can define stop words: common words that won’t be searched on. From the Status tab, check the current status of your index and its performance. From the Thesaurus page, define synonyms so that when one word is searched, both it and its synonyms will be found. You can import thesauruses or add terms individually here. The Electronic Text Extraction tab provides a list of the types of documents that the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service can extract text from. If a file type is listed, an IFilter for that type is already installed and can be used to extract text from and index those files.
  • The Auditing page lets you define where audit logs are saved and when log files should be rolled over. The Rollover Logs tab shows a list of rollover logs, their location, and the date range the logs cover. You can manually perform a rollover here or download selected logs.

Web Client Configuration

The Web Client Configuration page allows administrators to set up repositories, authentication methods, profiles, SMTP settings, watermark options, logging levels, and remote access. At least one repository must be configured before the Web Client can be used. The page can be accessed after installation via the Start menu or by navigating to its URL, and it can also be launched during setup. Additionally, administrators can select a default display language if language packs are installed.
