Laserfiche AI features allow you to extract and process data quickly and easily, generate summaries and analysis, deliver insights into your content, and otherwise make better and more efficient use of the information in your Laserfiche system. Laserfiche AI powers several features across Laserfiche.

Laserfiche AI Usage

There are two ways that Laserfiche AI usage is determined and tracked:

• Manual usage: Laserfiche AI usage is considered manual when a user performs a specific action to start an AI process. For example, asking a question in Smart Chat is manual, as is pressing the Extract button to extract field values for a document. These actions do not consume AI units. This allows you to explore Laserfiche AI features, test Smart Fields and AI prompt rules, and so on without worrying about using up your AI units.

  Note: If a manual action triggers an automatic action, that automatic action will still use AI units. For example, if you manually apply a template to a documnet, and that template includes Smart Fields that are then automatically extracted, the field extractions will use AI units.

• Automated usage: Laserfiche AI tasks performed automatically or in the background, such as automatically extracting fields upon document import or running an AI prompt rule in a workflow, will use AI units.

Enabling and Disabling Laserfiche AI Features

By default, Laserfiche AI features are enabled for plans that support them. Administrators can choose to disable Laserfiche AI features in repository settings. In the app picker, select Repository Administration and then select General. In the Settings tab, you can select Enable AI Features to enable or disable all features, or specify which AI features to use. These changes are global to the repository and will take effect for all users.

You can also enable field extraction with Smart Fields, but configure it so that fields values will only be extracted by manually selecting Extract values on individual documents rather than having them automatically extracted when a template is applied and saved. To do so, select Enable field extraction, and clear Enable automatic extractions.
