Supplemental Security Features in Laserfiche

Laserfiche includes several supplemental security features that extend core repository security. These features provide more granular control over metadata and help ensure secure, accurate data capture.

These features are configured and managed independently but are commonly used together to support governance, compliance, and data integrity requirements.

Field Rights

Field and Template Rights control user access to individual fields on entries to which the user already has entry-level access.

Administrators can configure field and template rights to:

  • Allow or deny view, modify, or write access per field
  • Protect sensitive or system-managed metadata
  • Prevent unauthorized or accidental changes to critical data

Use cases:

  • Securing confidential metadata on a field-by-field basis
  • Streamining selection and application of templates

Note: Field and template rights apply regardless of folder location and complement entry-level security rather than replacing it.

Security Tags

Security Tags provide a rule-based security layer that supplements folder and entry security.

Security tags allow administrators to:

  • Define access to documents based on user or group membership
  • Maintain security enforcement when entries are moved or copied

Laserfiche Snapshot Security and Data Validation

Laserfiche Snapshot enforces repository security and metadata rules at the point of capture from desktop applications.

Snapshot Security

Snapshot respects existing Laserfiche security settings by ensuring:

  • Users can only capture documents to locations they have access to
  • Template and field permissions are enforced during capture
  • Repository security is not bypassed during document creation

Data validation ensures captured documents meet defined metadata requirements before storage. This includes:

  • Required field enforcement
  • Field format and value validation
  • Prevention of incomplete or invalid metadata submission

Enforcing security and validation during capture reduces downstream correction, rework, and compliance risk.
