Performing the Migration

You may wish to create an empty database prior to the migration if you are using Microsoft SQL Server. This allows you to optimize your database to best suit the needs of your installation. See Preparing a SQL Server Installationfor more information.

To migrate your database

  1. Create your empty SQL Server database, if desired.
  2. Load the Laserfiche Migration Utility. To start the wizard, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Laserfiche, and click Laserfiche Migration Utility. This starts the Laserfiche Migration Utility and loads the Welcome screen.
  3. Click Next to proceed to the Select type of source database step. Select the DBMS type of your source database
  4. Click Next. The Select type of destination database step will appear.
  5. Select the DBMS type of your destination database.
  6. Click Next. The Destination SQL Server Specific Settings step will appear.
  7. Specify the desired DBMS information for your destination database.
  8. Click Next to proceed to the Summary of Migration Parameters step.
  9. Verify the settings that will be used to migrate your existing database. To change any settings, click Back until you reach the desired setting and make the appropriate modifications.
  10. Optional: Click Advanced to load the Advanced Options dialog box.
  11. Optional: Select the Ignore recommendation and migrate thumbnail data check box to migrate existing thumbnail data to the new database. Be aware that this can add significant time to the migration.
  12. Optional: Select the Merge matching fields option to merge template fields with identical names and characteristics. Please see the propdef_unq section in the Premigration Data Integrity Constraints topic for detailed information on the field merging operation.
  13. Optional: Select the Audit data migration option to migrate current audit data. Specify a path to store the new audit log files and specify a maximum size per log file.
  14. Optional: Click Run Check Now to perform a data integrity check before running the migration. The migration wizard checks for data corruption in the source database, lists any possible issues, lists candidates for field merging, and writes the results to a log file. By default, the log file will be automatically saved in the "Laserfiche Migration Logs" folder inside your "My Documents" folder. The default log file will be named: dataintegrity(DatabaseName)DateTime.log.
  15. If you are satisfied with the current configuration, click Finish to begin the migration process. While the migration is running, you can click Show Details to view the status of the migration.
  16. At the end of the migration, click OK to continue. The migration will display the location of the migration log. By default, this log will be located in the "Laserfiche Migration Logs" folder in your "My Documents" folder. The default log file will be named: migration(DatabaseName)DateTime.log.
  17. The Repository Registration Wizard will launch at the end of the migration process. See Registering a Repository for more information.
  18. Once the repository has been registered to a Laserfiche 11 Server, the Server will perform an in-place update to it. See Updating to Laserfiche 11 from Prior Versions for more information.
