Searching

  1. In the Folder Browser, navigate to the folder you want to search in.

    Note: By default, the search will run in the folder you are currently in. To search the entire repository, navigate to the root of your folder structure.

  2. Press the search button Search button in the top right corner.
  3.  Select the checkboxes next to the search types you want to run.
    • Document text: Searches the text of documents.
    • Entry names: Searches the names of documents and folders.
    • Fields: Searches the fields assigned to documents and folders.

      Note: All fields must be indexed in order for their values to be returned as search results when using the Laserfiche Server 10.2 and later with the Laserfiche Mobile Server 10.2 and later.

    • Annotation text: Searches the text of sticky note, text box, and callout text box annotations.

  4. In the Laserfiche app 9.2.1 and later, you can choose to not run a template search, run a search for all documents not assigned a template, or run a search for documents assigned a specific template. Press the text under Template.
      • To not run a template search, clear the checkbox next to Template.
      • To run a search for documents with no template assigned, select the checkbox next to Template, then select No template assigned.
      • To run a search for documents assigned a specific template, select the checkbox next to Template, press the drop-down menu, and select the template you want to search, then press OK.

        Note: If a search has been saved in the web client, it will be listed under Saved Searches. Press a saved search to run it.

  5. To search for specific field values, press Choose fields under Template, select the checkboxes next to the fields you want to search, then press OK. Type the field value in the field text box and press the checkmark in the top right corner to run the field search.

  6. Enter a search term, choose a recent search from the drop-down menu that appears when you start typing in the search box, or press the barcode button Barcode button to scan a barcode. The barcode value will automatically be placed in the search box. Press Search to run a search similar to the Quick Search in other Laserfiche client applications. To clear all search criteria, including the search term, all checkboxes, and the templates and fields, press Clear Search.

  7. If you ran a text search, the results that match your search criteria will be returned as a list sorted by Laserfiche relevance ranking. Scroll to see more results. The text below each search result indicates the context of the search term.
  8. To view an entry returned from a search, press it. To edit the search criteria, press Edit Search in the top right corner.

  9. Note: Pressing an imaged document will open the document in the document viewer to the page containing the first search hit. If the search term appears elsewhere in the text of the document, it will also be highlighted throughout the document's image.

  10. To view a folder or document’s fields, long press the entry, press Metadata, then press the link next to Template.

Note: Advanced searches are not available in the Laserfiche app user interface. However, you can create an HTML file containing search parameters and place it in the repository. Opening this file from the app will run the search syntax contained within it. Learn more.
