Importing Text

You can import plain text files into your Laserfiche repository. In most cases, text files that are imported into your repository (as opposed to created from existing documents using text extraction) are converted into text pages in a text-only document, and once they have been imported they can be viewed in the document viewer. (See Importing Documents for complete instructions for importing any kind of document.)

By default, text files will be stored as text-only documents in Laserfiche, and will be displayed in the Laserfiche document viewer. If you want your imported text files to open in a native application instead (such as Microsoft Notepad), you can remove the .txt extension from the list of file types to be converted into Laserfiche documents. For more information, see Determining How Files are Stored and Viewed.

Note: Only plain text files with the .txt extension can be imported in this fashion. For example, even if your Microsoft Word document only contains words and no images, it is not a plain-text document and cannot be converted in this way.

By default, the original name of a text file will be used to name the new document created from it.
