Backing Up Workflow

The following Workflow data should be backed up: Workflow databases, configuration files, and custom activities.

Backing up MS SQL databases

We recommend that you perform backups of the complete database used by Workflow on a regular basis. The Workflow Server has a database that contains important information (e.g., workflows, starting rules, workflow history).

Backing up configuration files

The Workflow Server and Subscriber each have a configuration file that should both be backed up. Doing so will save you from having to configure certain Workflow settings again during a recovery.

  • On the Workflow Server machine, browse to Workflow’s installation directory. Ensure that Laserfiche.Workflow.Service.exe.Config is backed up.
  • On the Workflow Subscriber machine, browse to Workflow’s installation directory. Ensure that Laserfiche.Workflow.Subscriber.exe.Config is backed up.

Note: The Workflow Server and Subscriber may be on the same machine, in which case both files are in the same folder.

Tip: In most cases, Workflow’s installation directory will be C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Laserfiche Workflow 9

Backing up the Workflow volume

The Workflow volume is the folder in which Workflow stores its data. All files in this folder should be backed up.

  • The Workflow volume is saved by default in <AllUsersProfile>\Laserfiche\WF on the Workflow Server machine.
  • Note: You can configure the root of this path in the Workflow Server File System step of configuring the Workflow Server. If you have opted to store your Workflow data elsewhere, back up that location instead.

Backing up custom activities

If you have added custom activities to Workflow, all files in the following folder should be backed up:

  • Custom activities are stored by default on the Workflow Server machine in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Laserfiche\WF\Activities if you are running a 32-bit version of Windows.
  • Custom activities are stored by default on the Workflow Server machine in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Laserfiche\WF\Activities if you are running Windows a 64-bit version of Windows.
  • Note: This is the recommended location to store custom activity files. (The Workflow Designer will automatically add activities in this folder to the toolbox, but you must also register them in the Workflow Administration Console's Custom Activities node.) If you have opted to store your custom activities elsewhere, back up that location instead.
