Moving/Transferring a Repository

When moving or transferring a repository, you can choose to move all repository-related files to the new drive/computer or to only move selected items.

Note: If you decide to move it to a different drive on the same computer, you will be unregistering and registering the repository to the same Laserfiche Server.

Note:  If you are using Microsoft SQL Server as your DBMS and you plan to move data files to another location, keep in mind that you must move both the .mdf and .ldf files associated with the SQL database.

To move a Laserfiche repository

  1. Unregister the repository from the Laserfiche Server.
  2. Stop the Laserfiche Server.
  3. Choose a folder on the computer hosting the Laserfiche Server where the repository will be stored; if the folder does not exist, create it. This folder should be designated as the Laserfiche repository location when registering the repository.
  4. To use a different DBMS server, move the data to the new DBMS.
  5. From the computer where the repository will be hosted, start the Laserfiche Server.
  6. Register the repository to the desired Laserfiche Server.
  7. Verify the paths assigned to each volume. If they are pointing to an incorrect location, either move the volume so that the paths are accurate or update the paths to reflect the location of the volume. Keep in mind that volume paths are relative to the repository path. For important information on how to move a volume, see the Determining Where Volume Information is Stored topic.

Note: Indexing information is stored on the same computer as the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service, which may or may not be the same computer as the Laserfiche Server. For information about moving your Full-Text Indexing and Search Service and the associated catalogs, see Distributing the Full-Text Indexing and Search Service.
