Redaction

This annotation allows images and/or text associated with a document to be redacted. This lets you hide sensitive material from unauthorized users. Only users who have been assigned the See Through Redactions entry access right can view redacted material, which will appear highlighted in gray. (Learn more about entry access rights.) Users who can see through redactions can choose whether or not to retain redactions when exporting or printing documents with this type of annotation. Users without this entry access right will see a black or white area, instead of the image or text behind it.

By default, redacting a portion of text automatically redacts the corresponding portion of the image associated with the redacted text. Learn more.

To redact a document, open it in the document viewer and select the redaction tool (). Click and drag to create the redaction. If redaction reasons have been configured for your repository, you will be prompted to select a reason; you can also choose No reason assigned. You can also choose the color of the annotation (black or white) by right-clicking it, selecting Properties, and choosing the Fill color.

Redaction Reasons

After placing the redaction on a text, the Laserfiche Windows or web clients will ask for a Reason for the redaction under the "Redaction Properties" dialog box. You may choose a redaction via the dropdown menu, or leave it as "No reason assigned." You may also write your own redaction if you are an administrative user.

To edit redaction reasons in the Laserfiche Web client, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Management page and click General in the left-hand side.
  2. On the upper-right hand corner, click Redaction Reason.
  3. In the rows that appear you may edit, add or delete reasons for redactions.

Note: Setting a redaction reason allows users to see the redaction's properties and why a portion of the document has been redacted. This does not allow them to see through the redaction. If you are setting a redaction and you do not want users to know that part of the image has been redaction (such as when setting a white redaction on a document with white pages), you should not use redaction reasons.
