Running a Business Process

Business processes can be run, like a workflow, based off a starting rule. They can also be run manually from the Workflow Designer, the Workflow Administration Console, and the Laserfiche client applications.

  • From the Workflow Designer

Run a business process from the Workflow Designer when trouble-shooting or analyzing the design of your business process definition by using the Run Current Workflow option.

  • From the Laserfiche client applications

Business processes can be run, manually, from the Laserfiche client applications when their business process rule is satisfied.

  • Invoked by a workflow or another business process

A business process can be invoked by a workflow or another business process that has been configured with the Invoke Workflow activity.

  • Starting rules

Business processes, like workflows, can be assigned starting rules. You can assign starting rules instead of, or in conjunction with, business process rules. A business process that is assigned a starting rule will run when a set of predefined conditions are met or when a specific schedule occurs. If assigned a starting rule, the business process will run on the following occasions:

    • Automatically, when the starting rule is satisfied.
    • Manually, when run by a user in a Laserfiche client application (if configured).
  • From the Workflow Administration Console

Business processes assigned a schedule starting rule can be manually run from the Schedules Node in the Workflow Administration Console.
