Microsoft Office and WordPerfect Documents
- Text can be retrieved from Microsoft Word documents, Excel worksheets, and PowerPoint presentations, regardless of whether Microsoft Office has been installed.
- Outlook messages (i.e., .msg files) require that either Microsoft Outlook or an appropriate IFilter already be installed on your computer.
- WordPerfect documents require that either Corel WordPerfect or an appropriate IFilter already be installed on your computer.

Microsoft Office IFilter
The Microsoft Office Document Filter can retrieve text from Word documents, Excel worksheets, and PowerPoint presentations. The IFilter is automatically installed on most versions of Microsoft Windows. You will have to use another IFilter for Outlook messages.
Laserfiche and Microsoft Office IFilter
Both the Microsoft Office Document Filter (IFilter) and the basic text retrieval support provided by Laserfiche can retrieve text from Office documents. However, how the documents will be handled differs depending on the tool used to retrieve text.

The Microsoft Office Document Filter will only be used by Laserfiche when the Microsoft application corresponding to the file type in question has not been installed.
Microsoft Outlook IFilter
If an IFilter for Outlook messages (i.e., msg) has been installed on your computer, it will be used instead of the basic text retrieval support provided by Laserfiche, regardless of whether you have already installed Outlook. It is also able to retrieve text from attachments, while the basic text retrieval support provided by Laserfiche cannot.
Word Perfect Filter
If an IFilter for WordPerfect documents (i.e., wpd) has been installed on your computer, it will be used instead of the basic text retrieval support provided by Laserfiche, regardless of whether you have already installed Corel WordPerfect.
