Laserfiche Snapshot

Laserfiche Snapshot creates image pages and searchable text from electronic files (for example, a Word document, a web page, or a text file). It creates a static image version of the electronic document, which can be used for archival purposes or full-text search.

The generated image pages and text are stored in the Laserfiche repository. They can be assigned annotations and metadata, and they can be viewed without opening the file’s native application. This eliminates the need to print electronic files to paper and then scan them into Laserfiche.

When used outside of a Laserfiche repository, Snapshot creates a Laserfiche document that contains image pages and, if available, text. When used with electronic documents already stored in Laserfiche, Snapshot can add or replace the existing image pages associated with the document. This allows you to perform text searches on the current version of an electronic file stored in Laserfiche.

Saving a Document with Laserfiche Snapshot

Snapshot can process any electronic file that can be opened by a Windows application with printing capabilities. For each print job, you can:

  • Set the paper size.
  • Configure the color format.
  • Configure other image generation properties.
  • Specify document properties such as location, name, and field data.
  • Automatically extract text, making documents created by Snapshot retrievable through text search.

The recommended way to generate or update pages for a Laserfiche electronic document is to select the document in the Laserfiche Windows Client and then select Generate Pages from the Tasks menu. Pages are generated according to the Generate Pages Options settings you have configured.

Important: Updating image pages for documents already stored in Laserfiche is supported only in the Laserfiche Windows Client. Snapshot cannot be used in this way with the Laserfiche web client. However, Snapshot can be used as a printer outside of a repository on any computer where Snapshot is installed.

  • Network printer: Users who print to a shared Snapshot printer and do not have Snapshot installed locally cannot generate pages from non-PDF documents within the Laserfiche Windows Client. Additionally, if the shared printer version of Snapshot is installed on a computer running terminal services, users on that computer cannot update the image pages or text of an existing electronic document.

Warning: The image pages and text of an electronic document cannot be updated while Snapshot is processing print jobs. Wait until all Snapshot print jobs are complete before processing the document.
