Laserfiche Snapshot
Laserfiche Snapshot creates images and text pages from electronic files (e.g., a Word document, a Web page, a text editor, etc.). This creates a static image version of the electronic document, which can then be used for archival purposes or to make the document searchable. The image and text pages generated in this fashion are stored in the Laserfiche repository, and therefore can be assigned any of the annotations or metadata available to documents. They can also be viewed without needing to have or open the native application for the file. This eliminates the need for printing electronic files to paper, then scanning them into Laserfiche. When used outside of a Laserfiche repository, Snapshot creates a Laserfiche document that contains images and/or text. When used on electronic documents within Laserfiche, it will add or replace existing image pages associated with the electronic document. This allows you to perform text searches on the current version of an electronic file stored in Laserfiche.
Snapshot can process any electronic file that can be opened by a Windows application with printing capabilities. For each print job, you can :
- set paper size
- configure color format
- configure other properties used to generate images
- set properties (e.g., location, name, field data, etc.) for the Laserfiche document to be created from the pages
- automatically index the text extracted from the electronic file which makes documents created by Snapshot retrievable by text search.
The recommended way to generate or update pages for a Laserfiche electronic document is to select the document in Laserfiche, and then select Generate Pages from the Tasks drop-down menu. This will generate pages according to the Generate Pages Options settings you have configured.
Important: Using Snapshot on documents already in Laserfiche is only supported with the Laserfiche Windows client. Snapshot cannot be used in this way with the Laserfiche web client. However, using Snapshot as a printer outside of the repository can be used on any computer on which Snapshot is installed, regardless of whether the Client is also installed.
- Network Printer: Users that print remotely to a shared Snapshot printer and do not have the printer installed locally will not have the option to generate pages from non-PDF documents within the Laserfiche Repository Windows Client. Additionally, if the shared printer version of Snapshot was installed on a computer that has terminal services, users on that computer will also be prevented from updating the images and/or text of an electronic document.
Warning: The images and text of an electronic document cannot be updated while Snapshot is processing print jobs. Please wait until all Snapshot print jobs are completed before trying to process an electronic document.
