Organizing and Customizing Your Toolbar
You can configure your folder browser and document viewer toolbars so that the buttons and toolbars have specific appearances and behaviors. You can also add multiple toolbars to the folder browser and document viewer.
To customize toolbars, create custom buttons, edit buttons, or create custom keyboard shortcuts, see the Customization dialog box. Or, learn how to add or remove buttons from the toolbar.
To change a toolbar's position
- Hold your cursor over the vertical dotted line to the left of the toolbar you want to reposition until it turns into four arrows.
- Drag the toolbar to its new location.
- If you drag the toolbar to the left, right, bottom, or top side of the folder browser or document viewer, it will attach itself to the frame.
- If you drag it to any other part of the window, the vertical dotted line disappears, and the toolbar will float on top of the folder browser or document viewer. To move a floating toolbar, click the title menu of the toolbar and drag.

In Laserfiche 9.0.1 and later, you can prevent accidental changes from being made to your toolbar by locking the display. Locking the toolbar prevents you from adding, removing or rearranging buttons, moving or undocking the toolbar itself, adding or removing new toolbars, and changing toolbar options. Locking the display will lock all your toolbars. If you want to make changes to the toolbar in the future, you can unlock the display at any time.
Note: Locking the display will lock both the toolbar and the panes.
The toolbar can be placed along any border of the document viewer or folder browser or it can "float" on top of the window. A floating toolbar can be moved and sized as desired.
- To lock the toolbar, open the View menu and select Lock Display, or right-click the toolbar and select Lock Display.
- To unlock the toolbar, open the View menu and clear Lock Display, or right-click the toolbar and clear Lock Display.
To change a toolbar button's position
When arranging toolbar buttons, keep in mind that certain buttons affect or work with other buttons. For logical purposes, these buttons should be kept together.
Example: In the folder browser, the Folder Pane and Search Pane toolbar buttons cannot be activated at the same time. To help remember this relationship, you might want to keep them close to each other.
Example: In the document viewer, several toolbar buttons determine the mode (panning, selection, zoom, etc.) the cursor will assume. If these buttons are placed randomly along the toolbar, it may take longer to identify the current cursor mode and switch between modes.
- Open the Customize dialog box either from the Toolbars: General node of the Options dialog box or by right-clicking a toolbar and selecting Customize.
- Select the button on the toolbar you want to move and drag it to its new location.
- To place buttons in groups using vertical dividers right-click the button you want to place the divider before and select Begin a group.
- When you are finished configuring the toolbar, click Close in the Customize dialog box.
