Viewing and Modifying Tags

You can view and modify the tags applied to an entry (document or folder) in the Tags tab of the Metadata dialog box in the folder browser, or in the Tags tab of the Metadata Pane in the document viewer.

There are two kinds of tags that can be applied to documents: informational tags and security tags. Applying an informational tag to an entry is a way of flagging or categorizing a document. For instance, you might mark a document as "Needs Review" if it requires additional review, or as "Westcott Building Project" if it pertains to that project. A security tag functions as both categorization and security: if an entry has a security tag, only users who have been granted that security tag will be able to see it.

Note: Although tags can be applied to folders as well as documents, tags are not inheritable. Applying a tag to a folder will not apply it to the documents within that folder.

In the Laserfiche Windows client, you can also see the number of tags applied to a document or folder on the Tags tab of the Metadata dialog box. For example, if a document has two tags, the tab will say "Tags: 2." (If no tags have been applied to the entry, there will be no number listed.) In the Laserfiche web client, a blue dot will appear over the Tags tab icon if there is at least one tag assigned to the document.

Note: If the tag you are applying is a security tag, only users who have been granted that tag will be able to see the document to which it is applied. Security tags are marked with the security tag icon (The security tag icon, a gray tag with a black lock.) . See Security Tags for more information.
